Income Tax Return Preparation

We offer preparation of all Federal Income Tax returns including forms 1040 (individual), 1040X (amended), 1040NR (non-resident), 1045 (refund claim), 1120 (corporate), 1120S (S-corporate), 1065 (partnership or limited liability company), 990 (non-profit entities, as well as forms 1041 (trust), 706 (estate), and 709 (gift).  We also prepare state income tax returns.

Of crucial importance to every client should be the quality of service received during preparation of their return. We take care to answer as many questions as possible regarding tax law and how the law is typically applied by the IRS. We also discuss strategies to help reduce your tax burden in the future, issues related to business entity type (sole proprietorship vs. corporation, etc.), and other issues pertinent to your tax situation. These discussions, done face to face at your tax preparation appointment time, are as important as the tax return preparation process itself.

With the 10's of thousands of tax law issues in existence, we feel that a non-tax person preparing their own tax return, whatever the complexity of that return, risks losing tax breaks and/or making errors which will alert the IRS and trigger an audit with potentially disastrous consequences. Likewise, using a preparer who lacks substantial tax experience is not a sound decision, regardless of the "promises" and "guarantees" such companies make when soliciting customers through their high-budget advertising campaigns. Most preparers working at large tax preparation companies have only a few weeks of training and no experience dealing with the IRS hence are not qualified to advise anyone in anything beyond the most basic of tax matters.

Our company policy includes the following:

We prepare returns for roughly the same prices as the large tax preparation companies, but with a level of service which is far more personal and higher in quality.

We never encourage clients to file extensions for the convenience of our schedule (many firms do this because they simply do not have time to finish their work during the normal tax season; some even falsely claim that this lowers the chance that the return will be audited - an untrue statement). Filing extensions also extends the statute of limitations on the return, allowing the IRS a longer period in which to audit and make additional assessments.

"My experience working in the IRS as a revenue agent helps me identify "red flags" that could result in your return being selected for audit.  This is not the type of service that you are likely to find at a large income tax preparation company.  It is free for our clients at interTax Accounting & Tax Services."
