IRS Appeals Representation for Both Audit and Collection Issues

If you have been assessed additional taxes during an audit, but feel those taxes were incorrectly assessed, you have the right to appeal the decision of the IRS.  Due to time pressures and statute limitations, auditors and revenue agents often have to "close" cases before all the facts have been adequately determined or correctly interpreted.  Even the most thorough IRS auditor/revenue agent can send forward a case without an adequate investigation.

Don't let the IRS "walk all over you" when it comes to assessing or collecting additional taxes.  There is nothing noble about unwillingly paying more than your fair share of tax.  In many cases, quality representation before appeals can save you a substantial amount of money in taxes, interest, and penalties.

You now also have the right to appeal collection determinations, and to suspend certain collection actions during your appeal.  This new right was given to you by Congress as a way of preventing the consequences of disastrous errors by IRS collection officers.  It may be wise to avail yourself of this right prior to the IRS seizing your car, business assets, or your bank accounts, particularly if such seizures would make it impossible for you to earn income.
